The U.S. South has turned into a hotbed of new-home construction over the past several years, with much of that construction concentrated in Florida. In fact, six of the top 20 cities for new-home construction are in The Sunshine State.
MoveBuddha analyzed new construction data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to determine the cities with the newest construction relative to population. Most of the top cities are in the southern part of the country with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, ranking at No. 1 with approximately 10,688 new homes per every 100,000 residents.
Six of the other top cities are in Florida, the highest ranking being North Port. Nestled between Sarasota and Fort Myers, it comes in at No. 2 with 5,715 new homes per 100,000 people.
The central and northern Florida cities of Lakeland, Orlando, and Tampa ranked at Nos. 3, 4, and 7, respectively, followed by the South Florida city of Cape Coral at No. 8. Cape Coral boasts 1,923 new homes per 100,000 people.
Miami was also on the list at No. 9 with 1,845 new homes per 100,000 residents.
